September 16, 2009- NEWMARKET- The Canadian Tamils’ Chamber of Commerce held their 2nd Annual Golf Classic at the beautiful Silver Lakes Golf and Country Club in Newmarket. Despite the windy weather the event was a great success and everyone had a wonderful time.

Many people joined together to enjoy the great day of golf, and skill levels varied from beginners to more experienced golfers. It would have seemed as if business was closed or at least on pause for the day as many Bankers, Lawyers, Doctors, Realtors, Business Owners and many others came prepared to play for the 2nd Annual Golf Classic hosted by the CTCC.

Many golfers were up for the challenge of claiming the first place trophy from last year’s winners Team NJ, but for the second year in a row none other then Team NJ won, making these talented golfers the undefeated winners, receiving the first place trophy. Team RJ Multi Litho tied for 2nd place but unfortunately for the other team due to a term “retrogradation” (opposite to the usual order) RJ Multi Litho team managed to pull through to claim the title of second place.

As the golfers finished their 18 holes they lined up one by one to face the Putting Challenge. This was another chance to join the winners circle. There could only be one winner and that was Mike Connell from the team Margosa Credit Union. The trophy for Closest to the Hole was won by Jeyakumar from King Tours, and Neil Rathee from The Co-operators won the title for the Longest Drive and a 4-some prize pack courtesy of Todd Sloan, Tournament Co-ordinator of the Silver Lakes Golf and Country Club.

There were many sponsors and hole sponsors that came out in one form or another to support the CTCC beginning with RBC Royal Bank of Canada, Scotiabank, TD Canada Trust, The Co-operators, Margosa Credit Union, Santha-Plumbing and Electrical, Rajeef Koneswaran of Re/Max Vision Realty, Eddie Chan of Scotia McLeod, The Sutton Group Admiral Gary Anandasangaree, Apex, Liland Insurance Inc., and Monsoon Journal.

After the long day of golf, the evening closed with a speech by the new President of the CTCC Mr. Ken Kirupa thanking everyone who joined the CTCC in participating in this year’s Golf Classic, and then followed by a speech by the President and CEO of The Scarborough Hospital Foundation (SHF) Mr. Michael Mazza, thanking the CTCC for their support to the SHF. All of this was then followed by a hearty steak dinner served by the Silver Lakes Golf and Country Club.

All of the proceeds for the golf tournament will go to the Scarborough Hospital Foundation for resources and hospital equipment.

The day was eventful and talks about next years tournament was already in the works, as many of the golfers could be heard of refining their skills before the next tournament.
The CTCC welcomes everyone in participating in the events taken throughout the year including next year’s Golf Classic.
