What is the need for the CTCC to own its own space?

The CTCC was founded in 1991 to develop and foster entrepreneurship within the Tamil Community in Canada. The CTCC has continued to grow and be a critical organization within the Tamil Community but does not yet have a space of its own. This has limited the CTCC to fully satisfy its mission.

It has been identified that the CTCC has limited spaceand funds. The CTCC is currently required to rent external space to hold events, meetings, or discussions with its own members. Each time the CTCC plans on focusing on growth, its limitations hold it back. We believe that with the building/office space, the CTCC can hold many more events, larger meetings, workshops, seminars, rent the space when notin use and provide other value-added services. Over the long term, this will become a very valuable asset for the CTCC. Not only in terms of allowing for the CTCC toachieve its mission but also economically. Economically, real estate is an appreciating asset class and will only grow in value over time.

After 28 years, it is our recommendation that for the CTCC to grow and fully meet its potential and satisfy its mission, it should have a space of its own. The Building Committee was initially formed to advise the General Membership whether it is necessary for the CTCC to have its own building/office space. After debating the need of the space, reviewing the CTCC's mission to this proposed project, and in forming the feasibility report, the Building Committee has concluded that it is critical for the CTCC to have its own space to achieve its mission.

Prospective Budget

$1.20 to 1.4 million dollars (CAD)

Prospective Timespan

50% of the target funds by October 15, 2019 Building can be purchased by the 2020 AGM.

If the proposal is not finalized to purchase the building OR if at least 50% of the target funds are not collected by August 31, 2020, the money collected will be

  • refunded to each equity donor in full.
  • refunded to each sponsor donor in full less any financial benefits provided to the sponsor donor by the CTCC by the 2020 AGM.

Prospective Fundraising

100% Sponsorship Option

All of the donor's funds will be used to market their business and they will not receive any equity in the building, other than a Recognition Plaque in the new building.


100% Equity Option

If the Donor does not want to Sponsor and does not want the marketing, they can allocate all their funds towards the Equity portion and become a non-voting shareholder in one of the corporation's which will own the building.

Any 100% Equity Option sponsors will not get any financial sponsorship benefits.

60% Sponsorship Option, 40% Equity Option

The Building Committee has decided that a 60/40 mix is the most marketable approach.

60% of the funds will be used towards promoting the Donor's business through the mediums specified in the Sponsorship Package; and

60% of the funds will be used towards promoting the Donor's business through the mediums specified in the Sponsorship Package; and

40% of the funds will be used for the Donor to become a nonvoting shareholder in the building.

This option is only open to sponsors participating in a Sponsorship Package of at least $25,000.

The Building Committee reserves the right to alter the sponsorship package based on the demand or offers to sponsor
this project from potential donors. This will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
